Last updated 5 hours 18 minutes ago

Whether you are a New York City resident or visiting Manhattan for the first time, there is no better way to take in the city than from a helicopter. A helicopter tour of New York City lets you see the best known sights without having to deal with crowds. Keep reading to find out why summer is one of the best times to book a Manhattan helicopter ride and enjoy this great city.

    Clear Skies
While New York City is one of the most exciting metropolises in the world, it has its share of harsh, snowy winters. Now that the sun is out, it’s a great time to take a helicopter tour without worrying about inclement weather. In your helicopter, you’ll have excellent visibility of New York’s most iconic sights, including the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building. Sightseeing from a helicopter gives you a unique perspective on the City That Never Sleeps.

    No Crowds
Many people decide to take their summer vacations in New York City, making the city even more crowded than it usually is. Though Manhattan is full of amazing landmarks and sights, it can be difficult to enjoy them on foot when you have to fight through crowds. Busy, congested sidewalks and long lines for admission can detract from your otherwise enjoyable vacation. When you see the city from a helicopter, you don’t have to worry about dealing with other tourists—you can simply marvel at the incredible city stretched out beneath you.

    Cool Comfort
Taking a helicopter tour isn’t just a great way to get away from the crowds—it’s also a great way to take a break from New York City’s famed summer heat and humidity. Your helicopter is equipped for your comfort, and during the tour, you won’t have to endure the tired, aching feet that are common to sightseeing adventures.

Summer is here; book your New York City helicopter tour with Manhattan Helicopters today. Call us at (646) 783-3606 if you have any questions about how you can experience this iconic city for yourself.

    The History of Ellis Island

    Last updated 13 days ago

Ellis Island was once the gateway to America. More than 12 million immigrants entered New York City through Ellis Island from 1892 to 1954. The first immigrant to enter the U.S. through Ellis Island was Annie Moore, a teenager from Ireland. Located in New York Harbor, near the Statue of Liberty, the island expanded to 27.5 acres from its original size of just over three acres. This expansion was largely due to ballast from ships and the New York City subway construction, which created excess landfill.

Ellis Island’s role as an immigrant processing station diminished considerably after World War I, when immigrants began applying for entry at American consulates in their own countries. During World War II, Ellis Island served other purposes, including providing a place for the training of 60,000 servicemen. Ellis Island was declared a part of the Statue of Liberty National Monument, and was accessible to the public from 1976 to 1984. After a huge restoration project, the island reopened in 1990.

Today, one of the best ways to view Ellis Island and the New York City skyline is from the air. Book your helicopter tour with Manhattan Helicopters by calling (646) 783-3606.
